After teaching locally in San Diego, and speaking at RWA Chapters and national conferences, I’m often asked if I offer online classes… I’m happy to report that starting in 2015 I will be offering writing classes online right here through my website!
Each month I’ll offer a new craft class. These classes are conducted through yahoogroups so it’s very convenient for you to attend via email whenever you’ve got time. The classes are very hands-on with writing assignments and feedback. I’m a big believer that actually trying the techniques will help you master them and add another tool into your Writer’s Toolkit.
Most of the courses are 4 weeks for $30. That’s about a $1 a day toward building your craft as a writer!
The courses are open to all from beginner to published authors, all I ask is that you make the most of your class and participate.
Monthly craft classes will be on hiatus through June of 2017. Lisa has some crazy book deadlines. BUT the 52 Stories in 52 Weeks Challenge is always open… More info below!
Coming up in November:
Writing and Placing Short Stories in Anthologies and Magazines – (November 6th – December 1st) – Class will be capped at 10 writers!
Are you looking to build your writing resume? Short stories are a great way to get your work into the world and build your readership.
We’ll examine short story form and story arcs by dissecting a few short works. You’ll be introduced to venues that publicize calls for submissions for short fiction, and we’ll also discuss techniques for crafting stories to fit an Anthology guideline as well as Story Submission Letters an author bios.
If you’re looking to get published, or have some short stories you’d like to place, this is the class for you. And if short fiction is something you’ve never investigated, you might discover a new love in your life.
I look forward to working with you! Reserve your spot now!
52 Stories in 52 Weeks – (Open enrollment NOW – Limited spaces left)
We had writers in 2015 & 2016 who met the Challenge! Are you next?
What is it?
After meeting Ray Bradbury, I asked about ways to improve my writing. He suggested writing a new short story every week for a year. I embarked on the journey and continued for 18 months! It was the best writing experiences I’ve ever had!
After teaching short story classes, I’m often asked if I would mentor others who set out on this journey. I’ve thought about local meet-ups, etc, but I think having it online makes the most sense. I will open this writing quest once a month in 2015.
You’ll be posting a new short story every week. You will receive feedback on every story every week. I also set up a private chart for our group, so participants can have a visual reference of their progress. This should be inspiring and also add that little bit of peer pressure to help you complete a story even during the tough weeks. 😀
I hope you’ll join in on the journey. At less than $10 per week, this is a super investment in yourself and your writing. I look forward to reading you work and cheering you on during this marathon…
