The Next Big Thing, the FBI and the Ninja Release Party!

Hi everyone –

Last week I got a call that made me swallow my tongue! LOL

I answered my cell phone and heard someone ask for me and utter… “I’m with the Federal Bureau of Investigation.”

YEEK!!!

Of course for a few seconds all I could think of is… “Why are they calling me? What did I do?”

And then I remembered a few weeks ago I had told a friend who was applying for a new job that required security clearance that she could use me for a reference! SHEW!!!! Ginormous relief! Anyway, two days later I met up with an FBI Agent who flashed his badge and everything!!! For a fiction writer, I was having a blast! I discovered through our chat that as an agent who specializes in background checks, he has to know the Privacy Act and be prepared to recite it to you if you ask… Wow!

But the thing that surprised me most… Ready? At the end he let me know I might receive a questionnaire in the mail from the FBI to get my feedback on our interaction! The FBI does quality assurance surveys! LOL Who knew?

And now from top secret to ninja! (How’s that for a segue way? J)

Night Thief will be releasing before the end of September, but the actual release date will depend on when Amazon and B&N links show up… Ninja-style! So I thought it’d be fun to have a Ninja Release Day party!!! J It’s actually kind of appropriate that Night Thief enters the world like a thief in the night, right? LOL

On to “The Next Big Thing”…

This is actually a fun idea that Lynn Rush tagged me in… Basically I’m going to share a little bit about my new Work in Progress and then I’ll tag a couple more writers at the end… Fun!

What is the working title of your book?

I have two titles I’m toying with… “You Slay Me” and “My Personal Slayer”

Where did the idea come from for the book?

It actually came from my hubby! We share an office and one night at about 1am, I was writing and turned around to find him looking at a webcam of the beach. It was a beach hotel here in San Diego with a floodlight casting dim light on the beach. You could see the white break of the waves and there was one person standing out on the beach looking out at the water. My first thought was “What would you do if you saw a man burying a body in the middle of the night on the web cam?” I couldn’t stop thinking about it and this book all germinated from that one creepy idea…

What genre does your book fall under?

Contemporary Paranormal Romance

Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?

My hero is Gabriel aka Gabe and in my head he looks like a cross between Alex O’Loughlin who played Mick St. John on the Moonlight TV series and Christian Kane who played a lawyer from Wolfram & Hart on the Angel TV series.

My heroine is like Jennifer Connelly with auburn hair and dark eyes.

What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?

That’s tough since I haven’t finished writing the book yet! LOL Maybe something like…

Save the world, Slay the demon, and Protect your heart…

You can’t slay true love…

He slays demons, but his love can get you killed…

I’ll keep working on it! LOL

Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?

My agent will be handling this one and hopefully find a great home for it! *fingers crossed*

How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?

I’m 2 weeks and 11,000 words in so far…

What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?

I’m not going to compare this one to other books… Instead, it feels like a mix of tv shows that I love… A little Angel with a healthy dose of Moonlight and a dash of Buffy! 🙂 If you like hot, tortured demon slayer heroes and heroines who can hold their own, I think you’ll have fun with this book! I’m having a blast writing it…
